Hey folks, hope you had a relaxing Sunday. Nikki had a great day today, even able to make it out to our Life Group and touch base with all our friends. Her energy was up along with her spirits, didnt even have to take any medication today. We thank you for your prayers, the side effects have been minimized. We'll keep you posted, in the meantime share a laugh and enjoy! Chemo treatment requires that we pay attention to our nutrition, but this is just ridiculous! The folks in the cancer center have a great sense of humor. Show and tell day for Allie at school....only in Hawaii ya? Lucy is just a bundle of joy, whats not to smile at ?

Hi all I just wanted to write at let you all know I am doing ok right now. I think I slept 20 of the last 24 hours. I have some side effects, nausea and extreme fatiuge. I am able to eat and drink which is a huge praise. Thank you all for your prayers...so many have been answered. Please continue to pray as this will continue throughout the summer.

First, praise to the Lord for getting us to this milestone of cancer treatment and providing incredible medical care. Second, thanks to all of you, you know who you are. Countless emails, texts, drop in visits, meals and other visible signs of support-- we feed off that positive energy. Today went very smoothly, we checked in this morning and were seen almost immediately. Blessed to have two surprise visits from Julie (goes to our church) and Lee/Paula (the chaplain from my work); talk about starting the day off right. The RN was extremely competent and got an easy "stick" into Nikki and delivered the med's in short order. The room is literally painted with visible signs of hope, when you're done with chemo you dip your hands in paint and leave your mark on the wall. We were able to chat, read books and just hang out the entire time. It went pretty quickly and ended with the head nurse saying "congratulations, you guys just made it thru the first round". Nikki was feeling so well that we went to store to pickup some odds/ends before coming home. At that point, however, she started showing mild signs of nausea along with fatigue. Got her home, put some food in her along with an anti-nausea pill, and she was good. Nikki took a long nap but woke up, ate dinner (thank you Emily) and chatted a while. All in all, a good day, we pray for strength during the treatment and most importantly complete cure from this wretched disease.
What I Know God is good Regime: 4 doses of AC (the aggressive chemo regime) administered every two weeks; 12 doses of a single chemo drug administered every week. This means we'll be done with chemo around mid-August. Nikki has to avoid infection which, as she so aptly pointed out, means she can't pick up the dog poo or change Daniel's poopy diapers :( What I don't know How Nikki's body will react to the chemo-- what side affects will she see If Nikki will allow me to administer her shot of Nulasta (boosts white blood cells); apparently she is afraid I'm gonna use brute force as opposed to finesse What made today normal Allie landed a roundhouse to Daniels back after trying to do a cartwheel in the house #twoscreamingchildren Praise Smooth delivery of treatment from some of the most amazing caregivers we have ever come across Allie and Daniel are doing ok thus far Prayer Requests For a positive mental attitude (PMA!) All those who sent flowers, holy cow so many Aloha Feel free to drop in and say hello, Nikki could use the conversation throughout the day....Mike Alright folks, Mike here, and not much to write other than "it's go time". Kinda feels like the weekend before Hell Week- you know its gonna suck, not exactly sure how much, but totally worth it when you get to the other side. Wednesday starts the aggressive chemo regime and we have some anxiety despite knowing that God has already brought us this far thru the desert. This morning Nikki mentioned how God has consistently reminded her that he always goes ahead of us- whether it's guiding this Israelites with a cloud by day and fire by night, or sending messengers to foretell of his plan for restoration. During the easter season the symbol of the cross means that much more to the Uyboco family, it demonstrates how he has gone before us. A symbol of hope, a symbol of how he has already gone before us, a symbol that cements the fact that "it is finished", the outcome is already determined. We're relying on that hope and look forward to sharing what he will do thru this next stage.
PLEASE: send Nikki email, texts, letters of the utmost encouragement. We're gearing up for this stage and you are have been so amazing in your support. Blow up her phone with an old fashioned call, build her up. "You can do this Nikki!" What I Know God is good Chemo starts Wednesday am What I don't know The exact timing of the chemo, initially it will be 4 rounds every 14 days (2 in April 2 in May) What made today normal Daniel walking out the bathroom with the baby toilet seat on his head Praise Peace in our decision to go with the more aggressive regime Prayer Requests Prayers against infection of any kind Prayers against sickness Prayers for side effects to be manageable Prayers for ability to eat and sleep Prayers for Allie to not be too affected by my treatment Shout out Jodi and family for the amazing cards and painting! Bridgette for the amazing coffee cake Aloha Thanks again for all your prayers, much aloha....Mike First of all, Happy Birthday Mike! You are SO amazing, hard working and faithful to our family, we love you. I wanted to fill everyone in our decision we made last week. Raise your hand if you knew there was more than one kind of chemo? I didn't. I thought it was all the same and everyone got really sick. The first oncologist I saw told me there were more than 1 and that he was recommending the "ok" version of chemo (because it didn't spread to my lymph nodes), where you still loose your hair but you don't get so sick. Then Dr. B mentioned the "yucky" version as an option but said either version were acceptable. Then we had one doctor on the mainland recommend the "yucky" version as the way we should go. So, after thinking we were good with the "ok" version we were left very conflicted. In the beginning I was determined not to do the yucky version because of the possible short and long term side effects. But words from doctors kept coming back to me, "we are seeking a cure" and "the time for a cure is now." You see if cancer returns in my breast tissue I can still be cured. However, if the cancer returns somewhere else in my body it cannot be cured. SO after much thought and prayer we have decided to go with the "yucky" version. If it does come back I want to know I did everything I could to get rid of it. We are going with this more aggressive chemo because my cancer is aggressive. We are asking for prayers again, this time without ceasing. What I Know God is good Chemo starts Wednesday am Mike organized our taxes and paid all medical bills while I was at the church retreat I led a craft at my church retreat on protestant prayer beads, so fun http://prayerworksstudio.com/ What I don't know The exact timing of the chemo, initially it will be 4 rounds every 14 days (2 in April 2 in May) What made today normal Happy Birthday Mike!
